Find Your Favorite Music on the Internet

In our November newsletter, we announced we’re focusing on websites that help us eat, drink and be merry for this month.

This is the merry part.

Music sets the mood and you can find music for any mood on the Internet.  If you’re not picky, you can do this at no charge. If you want to play specific songs in a specific order, you may have to buy some tunes. And depending on your level of computer expertise, you may play music right off your computer, or if you own the songs you can download to an MP3 player or burn to a CD.

Simple
Pandora
is an Internet radio station where you choose the kind of music you want. You’ll get a custom station where you won’t hear any commercials, perfect for background at your party or at your desk. For example, if you type in holiday music, you’ll get choices like jazz holidays, country holidays and specific performers. Select one and then let it play, continuous music with no interruptions.

Intermediate
If you want more control over your tunes, and you have time to organize the order you want to hear the songs--what’s called a playlist-- Imeem
is for you. Free, but you will have to register to create and save a playlist.

Yahoo! Music
offers a lot more than Internet radio. Some of features are free, others will cost you. You can access the CBS affiliate radio stations across the country, and you can create a free radio station with your favorite artists.

Advanced
At the iTunes Store
you’ll be able to search by song, album or artist, make a purchase and download your music to your computer. Using iTunes software you can create a playlist for a specific event.  Prices vary, but expect to pay around a dollar a song.
