I cannot view print lesssons or PDFs using my Firefox browser
Firefox and PDFs
There is a known problem when using the Firefox browser to view large PDF files. This issue can be solved by changing your Firefox browser configuration to use Adobe Reader, instead of a PDF plug-in, to view the PDF files. If you receive the message "The file is damaged and could not be repaired", try one of the solutions below based on the version of the Firefox browser you are using.
Firefox 1.5 - 2.0 (Windows) (Thanks to Washington College of Law for these directions.)
* In Firefox select 'Tools' -- 'Options...'
* Select 'Downloads' -- 'Download Actions' -- 'View and Edit Actions...'
* Scroll to 'PDF'.
* Select 'Change Action' -- 'Open them with this application'.
* Browse to your Acrobat application (Acrobat.exe) on your local hard drive. Usually it's located here: C:/Program Files/Adobe.
* Click 'Open' -- 'OK' -- 'Close'.
Now when you try to open a link to a PDF file in Firefox, the PDF file will be automatically downloaded to your local machine and then open in Acrobat Reader.
Firefox 2.0+ (Windows) (Thanks to MIT Libraries for these directions.)
* In Firefox select 'Tools' -- 'Options...'
* Select ‘Content' -- 'File types' -- 'Manage…'
* Select 'PDF Adobe Acrobat Document'.
* Select 'Change Action' -- 'Open them with default application', if the default is Adobe Reader.
* If the default is not Adobe Reader, browse to your Acrobat application (Acrobat.exe) on your local hard drive. Usually it's located here: C:/Program Files/Adobe.
* Click 'Open' -- 'OK '-- 'Close'.
Now when you try to open a link to a PDF file in Firefox, the PDF file will be automatically downloaded to your local machine and then open in Acrobat Reader.
Firefox 3.0+ (Windows) (Thanks to Washington College of Law for these directions.)

How do I increase or decrease the sound volume?
To adjust your sound follow the instructions supplied in the user manual by your computer manufacturer.
Typically there is a small sound icon at the very bottom right of your screen (it looks like a small speaker). If present, you can click on that sound icon to bring up a screen that will let you adjust the sound. Make sure the "Mute" box is not checked as that turns the speakers completely off.

I can't hear any sound?
Be sure to check the easy stuff first:
1. Are the speakers turned on and have power?
2. Try plugging a known working item (such as a lamp) to check the wall outlet for power.
3. Make sure that all connections to all speakers are fully seated. Usually, these plugs click twice before the fully seat.
4. Unplug your speakers and try plugging in a known working set of head phones to test if the sound card is functioning.
5. Try plugging in the speakers to a known working portable CD player that will accept the same connection. This will determine if the speakers are working.
Step by Step Troubleshooting:
There are many reasons why sound can disappear. The steps inside this document fix a wide variety of sound failures. Perform the steps in order until you can hear sound from the speakers.
Step 1: Checking volume and mute settings:
The volume setting for your sound device might be disabled or set too low. Use the following steps to adjust volumes to their correct levels:
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel
2. Open Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices, and then click Sound and Audio Devices.
3. Click the Advanced button under first tab “Volume”.
4. Remove all checkmarks from Mute boxes at the bottom of the Master Volume window and adjust the volume setting slide bars to ¾ of their highest position.
5. Close the Volume window and test for sound. If there is still no sound, go to Step 2.
Step 2: Verifying your Speaker connections:
Use the following steps to verify that the sound cables are properly connected from the speaker to the computer (cable connectors and plug assignments are normally color-coded to aid with connections).
1. Unplug the sound cable.
2. Plug headphones or one speaker directly into the speaker out connector on the back of the computer. The speaker out connector may have a symbol of a speaker or a circle with an arrow pointing out, or it may just say "OUT" next to it.
3. Test for sound using the computer. If sound does not work, go to Step 3
If sound is restored when the headphones or one speaker is plugged in, replace the original sound cable with a new sound cable and test for sound. Sound should be restored after replacing the sound cable. If sound does not come back after replacing the cable, the sound card needs to be replaced because the speaker out connector is bad.
Step 3: Installing updated sound drivers:
Go to your computer manufacturer’s web page to search for updated sound driver software. Read the instructions on the download pages carefully before installing.
If there are no updated sound drivers available, use Microsoft's Windows Update feature. Connect to the Internet and try the following items until Windows Update opens:
1. Click Start, and then click Windows Update (if it is listed).
2. Click Start, click Settings, and then click Windows Update (if it is listed).
3. Click Start, click All Programs, and then click Windows Update (if it is listed).
4. Go to Microsoft's Web site and click Windows Update from the Downloads menu
